The Building: The Louis Boheme building is a landmark in the Quartier des Spectacles. Built in 2009, it has some 270 units raging in size from 600 square feet to 1700 square feet. Formerly overlooking the Place des Arts with units on the east side of the building benefitting from a direct line of sight of its concerts and events, it is now much quieter since the Balmoral, an office building, has been erected in between. The building is quite distinctive in that it is dark grey on the De Maisonneuve side and light grey on the Bleury side with patterns and a red accent colour to change the mood. The Louis Boheme was originally intended to have an indoor access to the Place des Arts subway bit it was decided that there was a security risk and so residents must now leave the frond door of the lobby and go around the corner to the entrance of the subway, only a minor inconvenience, however. There is also a 24/7 doorman, an urban chalet, a common area garden/terrace, an indoor pool, a gym and a sauna.
The condos: Most condos in the Louis Boheme building have a feature unique to the building which is a sliding wall separating the unit’s only bedroom (or the second bedroom in the case of most two bedroom units) from the living room. This is to help create a more open space aspect, allow more light to enter the living room, and to create an alternative usage for the bedroom (such as an office or study) rather than its usage being dedicated solely to that of a bedroom. Otherwise, the kitchens have long countertops and are well designed. The bedrooms and living rooms are all spacious and the developer minimised the loss of space.
The location: The location of the Louis Boheme, just like that of neighbouring buildings such as Le Concorde, Le Peterson and the Lofts St James, is ideal for professionals and students alike. Located on top of the Place des Arts subway station, access to public transit is seamless. The underground city at the McGill Metro is just three minutes away. McGill University is a mere 6 minutes walk, most of that can be done through the tunnels. It is surrounded by a great number of stores, restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs, as well as several grocery stores, and the city’s only 24/7 pharmacy.
