The Building: The Lofts des Arts is a conversion from a commercial building originally built in the 1920’s. Some may have heard of it when it was branded ‘Sleb’ which was a project from 2006-2008 which ultimately failed to take off. Thankfully another developer came along, took over the project, and renamed it ‘Lofts des Arts’ because it overlooks the Place des Arts, or at least part of it. The building is characterised by a high standard of finishing, its security, an opulent and welcoming lobby, and its amazing roof terrace with a swimming pool.
The condos: The units at the Lofts des Arts all have very large windows and face either North East or South West and North West. There are no South East facing units. As a result, the options are to either have views over the Place des Arts which is the sunniest side of the building and also offers city views as well as views over the square, the flipside of which are the concerts in summer from which there is no escape.
The location: The Quartier des Spectacles is a great location and its East side has been overlooked until recently. It now is one of the most active areas for construction in the City and promises excellent returns for those who are a little bolder. Although its main entrance is on Clark, the East side of the building is on St Laurent Boulevard, otherwise known as ‘The Main’ which is famous for its many restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs between the Old Port all the way to Little Italy. The building is also right next to the Montreal Symphonic Orchestra building and the underground city. A two minute walk its nearest access point and it is possible to walk underground all the way to the Old Port and the Palais des Congres. The nearest subway station is St Laurent on the Green line but it is also easy to walk to the Place des Arts station too. It is just 12 minutes walk to McGill University.
